Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is recruiting for the position of Tradesman Trainees - Trade Apprentices with a total of 10 vacancies across various trades. Candidates must hold an ITI National Trade Certificate (NTC) and meet the age requirements to apply. This is a walk-in recruitment scheduled for 30 September 2026.

Age Limit
The maximum age limit for candidates is 28 years. Age relaxation rules will be applicable as per government norms. Candidates are advised to check whether they satisfy the prescribed age limit before applying.
Eligibility Criteria
- Carpenter: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Carpenter.
- Electrician: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Electrician.
- Fitter: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Fitter.
- Welder (G&E): ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Welder (G&E).
- Painter: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Painter.
- Machinist: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Machinist.
- Turner: ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with an aggregate of 60% marks awarded by National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade Turner.

Selection Process
Selection is based on a combination of academic performance and a written test. Final merit is calculated using 60% weightage for the aggregate marks obtained in the designated trade across all semesters, and 40% weightage for marks obtained in the written test. Only candidates scoring 60% and above in the final merit list will be considered for selection.

Register on the National Apprenticeship Portal at apprenticeshipindia.org/login and retain the confirmation email. Submit the online application on the official TIFR website at tifr.res.in/positions. Report for the walk-in selection on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 9:30 AM at TIFR.
Documents Required for Walk-In Selection
- Printout of the online application form with a recent passport-size photograph
- Copy of the apprentice portal registration confirmation email
- Identity proof (Aadhaar Card / Election Card / PAN Card / Passport / Driving License)
- Date of Birth certificate
- All educational certificates
- Designated trade(s) mark sheet and National Trade Certificate
- Character certificates from two respectable persons
General Instructions
Candidates may apply only for the designated trade mentioned in the vacancy table and must possess the ITI certificate in that same trade. The engagement is temporary for a period of one year under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
